It is with deep regret that I have to announce that I will be taking a hiatus for The Soda Shop. For how long is unknown. I need to deal with a death of a close family member. I am also expecting to close on my first home this week. It is both exciting and nerve racking all at the same time. The house does need a bit of work. I do have a few reviews scheduled to post over the next week or so as well as Daily Bandcamp Albums up for the rest of the month. The 16th will be the final Weekly Bandcamp Recommendation feature for sometime. I may or may not post them to Facebook. Checking the blog will actually be the best way to check for new things. Requests for reviews and news posting may go unanswered, don’t take anything personally if you don’t hear back.

Scissorjack EP by Scissorjack“Scissorjack is a four piece heavy rock band from San Antonio, Tx. Scissorjack fuses heavy rock, the vintage sounds of classic rock, some aspects of modern rock , all the while keeping the music catchy and memorable. Daily Bandcamp Album; Return to the Infinite by Ten Foot Wizard

Return to the Infinite by Ten Foot Wizard“Ten Foot Wizard are a heavy blues rock band from Manchester with a penchant for tasty groove-heavy riffs.”

These guys may be new in town but they certainly play like seasoned veterans. They play heavy stoner rock along the lines of Sixty Watt Shaman and Alabama Thunderpussy.

Daily Bandcamp Album; The Conqueror by Whitcomb

The Conqueror by WhitcombIt’s hard to believe it’s been 3 years since I first came across these guys free demo on Bandcamp. This is their 3rd release since (4th if you include a promo of another album). This isn’t a huge album in terms of the amount of songs. It’s more of an EP than anything. It is huge in sound and in the way it hits you. This is ass kicking rock!

Daily Bandcamp Album; Snakeskin [EP] by King Hiss

Snakeskin [EP] by King Hiss“When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. King Hiss however, was given 4 man mountains. A scrumptious R&R hodgepodge that will keep your teeth sharp is the end result. This hodgepodge will be a true delight to any metal, hardrock, hardcore or stonerrockkid.

This rock and roll leviathan is moving in for the kill. King Hiss will claim the throne once more.”

Black Ash Sunday by BUSHFIRE“Bushfire is an international rock band that dabbles and dwells in the sounds of blues stoner doom southern rock. Members of the band span from across the globe from Portugal to Germany Namibia to Sweden and the USA. There will be NO overblown egocentric claims or an abundance of adjectives in describing the nature of their sound. Rather a feeling that you should make up your own mind and opinions.”

Current Rotation 2012

Bacchus Baracus Tales Of Worries Woes and WhateverBacchus Baracus have recently released their debut full length Tales of Worries, Woes & Whatever after a strong EP that was released in 2011.

The guys waste no time getting right down to business. Tales of Worries, Woes & Whatever is a non stop ride of deep and gnarly vocals, heavy neck snapping guitars, crushing riffage thoughout. The drumming is no joke either. You’d be hard pressed to find a better drummer not named Bonham, Moon, or Ward. The doomy overtones in “Fuck Knows Man” add to an already intense album. It’s the highlight of the album.
