In March 2012 Superhot Records invited resolvefilm (http://resolvefilm.co.uk/) to come and film Stubb performing a live and slightly reworked take of Hard Hearted Woman. This is the first of the Superhot Sessions.

Every now and then we’re going to invite one of our bands or a just a band we really dig to come and perform live for us. We’ll film it, record it and throw it out there so anyone, no matter what corner of the planet they’re on, can see what that band is really about. RIVAL SONS FINISH RECORDING NEW ALBUM

RIVAL SONS have finished recording and mixing their eagerly-anticipated new album in Nashville, Tennessee.

The as-yet untitled follow-up to the band’s 2011 breakthrough album, PRESSURE & TIME, was recorded with Grammy-nominated producer DAVE COBB and Grammy-winning engineer VANCE POWELL.  The album is due to be released on Earache Records in late August.

Bandcamp Recommendations – 5-17-2012

Instrumental doom metal trio from Lublin, Poland. They began their journey in late 2010, initially as a project alongside their parent band – Fifty Foot Woman. THE QUILL Rejoined By Bassist ROGER NILSSON

Swedish hard rockers THE QUILL have been rejoined by bassist Roger Nilsson. Previously a member of SPIRITUAL BEGGARS and FIREBIRD, Nilsson played bass on the first four THE QUILL albums but left the band in 2005 to pursue other musical ventures.

WITCHCRAFT Signs With NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS

Nuclear Blast Records has announced the signing of Swedish doom metal kings WITCHCRAFT.

After a five-year recording hiatus, WITCHCRAFT is currently tracking the follow-up to 2007′s “The Alchemist” with renowned producer Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios (KREATOR, OPETH, AMON AMARTH, PARADISE LOST, KATATONIA) in Örebro, Sweden. Tentatively titled “Legend”, the CD will mark the recording debut of the band’s new members Simon Solomon (guitar), Tom Jondelius (guitar) and Oscar Johansson (drums). Going forward, WITCHCRAFT leader Magnus Pelander will focus on his unique vocals without playing guitar anymore.

Current Rotation 5/16/2012

“Deep Space Destructors was founded in January 2011 in Oulu, Finland, on band members’ mutual love for 60’s and 70’s blues, hard rock, prog and psychedelia. The band added influences from stoner and doom genres, resulting in their brand of progressive doomsday spacerock.”

I’ll tell ya, this is one hell of a surprise.I enjoyed this one a lot. I loved the thick and deep fuzz and riffs throughout. It’s like desert, stoner, and doom all rolled into one. The vocals are melodious at times and other times it shreds. “The End Times” really does give that feeling that it is the end of times with it’s dark and doomy nature. It’s a heavy and thick number. The physical Ep does have a 4th hidden track titled “Maailmanloppu” which means “The End of The World.” It’s a much slower number to the tone of “Freebird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. It is sung in their native tongue so the words are lost on me but I can convey the feeling that it’s one of those pick me up songs.
