The Soda Shop started off through a chance encounter between Jake Ball and Ron Vance in February 2009. With over 30 years of experience in the music industry (roadie, manager, promoter, etc…), Ron saw a unique passion and knowledge within Jake that he knew would help be the keystone to a successful new venture. The Soda Shop had the original intention of being an Internet radio station focusing on independent stoner rock, doom metal, and anything else that was worth supporting. From there, the ambitious started to grow rapidly, and the site began to become something more. Unfortunately, these ambitions were short-lived, and The Soda Shop fizzled into nothing. Ron and Jake fell out of contact, and the project was all but abandoned. There was no radio stream, and there was no sustained website. The passion was gone, and the project was dead. Or was it?
In late 2009, Jake had another chance encounter with another enthusiastic music lover, Bill Goodman. They struck up the occasional conversation about music and that turned into a friendship. Around the time The Soda Shop would have turned one, Jake thought it was about time to bring back the radio stream. Bill saw this as an opportunity to come aboard and re-launch a music blog that he had began.
A couple months passed with the stream and blog online when tragedy struck. The radio stream was KO'd by tragic hardware failure. However, instead of the entire project dying, the blog lived. Not only did it continue, but it started to grove. Fate could not kill The Soda Shop a second time. There was nothing to derail this train. Months later, The Soda Shop is not only thriving, but it is on the cusp of major expansion as well. There are many things in the pipeline for 2012 and beyond.
