Review: Dryasdust Demo by Dryasdust

First off I’d like to give a shout out to Ride With The Devil blog for posting about this band today. I wouldn’t be writing about it now if it wasn’t for them. Second, I don’t normally review free albums but I can’t but help write about this one.

The band is called Dryasdust. Their bio as posted on their Facebook page:

“Finnish power trio hailing classic rock bands from the late 1960s and early 1970s.”

To be a little more specific, imagine a collective project between Graveyard, Orcus Chylde, Witchcraft, and Radio Moscow. They certainly take a cue more from their European counterparts than the American.

The demo consists of 5 songs that are just over 20 minutes total. The bluesy tones are deep and pure. The riffs are dark and heavy. The main riff on the opening song “Cold Sweat” sounds like something you’d hear from Graveyard in terms of style. The slow bluesy jam “Deep Waters” are very Witchcraft like. The song itself is a nice and mellow bluesy jam.

Is this the band and album that will re-invent the wheel? Probably not. Should this band be on the list of ones to watch? Yes. Is there potential for them to be greats among a crowded field of great retro rock? Absolutely. This sounds to good to be a demo. The production and quality, while not the most perfect, sounds great. As I said before, too good to be a demo. Listen for yourself. Stream it, hell, download it, the band is giving it away.
