Well happy birthday to the Bandcamp Recommendations. It’s been 2 years now running this column. I can’t even begin to imagine how many albums I’ve found so far but I love it and there seems to be no end in sight. I have had to upgrade 2 hard drives in recent months due to the fact of all the Bandcamp music I’ve gotten. How many of you out there can say the same thing? Speak up in the comments.

It’s supposed to be a window into our collective soul or something like that…perhaps so that you can know what it would be like to hang out with us or listen to our music, but we’re not quite sure it’s accurate. See, right now as you’re reading this, you’re probably not searching for earplugs in desperation to keep your ears from bleeding in response to our attempts to create an aural earthquake, right? You’re also probably not having a bunch of drinks with us, and saying that “this is the last one” over and over either (although we probably are). If you were hanging out with us right now, you would definitely be swooning over our ravishing good looks, delightful variety of beard density, and rapier wit, and it is quite plain that our pictures cannot hope to portray the sheer amount of sensuality we possess. Regretfully, we have to suggest that you instead listen to some of our music, come on out to a show, and have a drink or two with us so that we can crank up our charm offensive.”
“Joe 4 are a trio from Zagreb, Croatia which began playing at the end of 2008. as a four piece. In the middle/end of 2009. they continue to work as a cohesive trio, recording their first release, a 4 song demo/EP distributed solely through web channels. The music itself and songs by Joe 4 resemble the majority of a creative epoch labeled under the tag of American noise rock underground scene, incurred in the 90′s. It brings richly structured arrangements, in layers and compact, noise and loud songs filled with rage, sarcasm and cynicism, which without any prejudice can be put alongside the rebellious and quarrelsome obscene images with which stylistics and mannerisms of the genre is abundant. In the first instance, the emphasis is put on the smooth and scorching drumming and rhythm and the concept of compositions in which the alternating strong guitar riffs are opposed to braided, often linear ruse bass lines and flashy/gory vocals which neurotically shout harmoniously designed simple metaphorical lyrics.”

Radar men from the moon is a three-piece instrumental rock band from Eindhoven (NL), with Glenn Peeters on guitar and sonic attack, Jan-Titus Verkuijlen on bass and shivers, and Tony Lathouwers on drums and audio generator. They write, create and perform experimental sounds that will take you on a trip far away into the unknown boundries of space and time.
BlackWater’s demo is a mix of fuzzed out desert rock ala Queens of The Stone Age. It even has a bit of that swagger and charm that makes QOTSA so, charming.
