Bandcamp Recommendations 6/30/2011
Greetings and welcome to another edition of our Bandcamp Recommendations feature. This feature is almost a year old. It seems like yesterday I discovered the beauty of Bandcamp and all there is to offer. Enough of that already, on to what we’re all here for. Free music! Just remember though, support the bands by going to their shows, but a shirt or pay for other band merch.
The first band is from Canada. Unfortunately they recently broke up. To bad because they had a bright future ahead for them as their debut album The band is Hugenelk. Straight up stoner rock is what they play. Nothing is sugar coated, just as it should be. The songs are catchy, groove well and worthy of a download.
Next is a band from my home town of Chicago called The Plastic Boots. They play a cool mix of hard and blues rock. These guys are not new as they’ve been around a few years. This self titled effort continues their evolving sound. It sounds great and is pretty damn good too.
The next band broke out a few months ago with their album, Up In Smoke. The band is Milkmaids and are from Sydney. Their tunes are straight up stoner rock with bits of metal, grunge, doom and some psychedelics. Don’t pass this one up.
The last band to be featured today is called Asphalt Risin’ and they offer up their 3 track EP titled Songs For Your Last Drive. It’s an alcohol fueled hard rock ride that only this french band is capable of.
I said last band before, this next one isn’t exactly a band but rather a comp album put out by the great Ripple-Music to celebrate their first anniversary as a record label. The sampler features bands old and new by their impressive roster including Stone Axe, Mos Generator, Venomin James, Iron Claw and a new track by Grifter from their upcoming album. If you only download one comp album this year, download ours but make sure you make room to download Ripple’s as well.
