Happy Easter everyone. Welcome again to another Current Rotation. The following albums have been in my listening rotation for a little while now and I figured it was about time I share them with you.
The first album I’ve been enjoying for a few months now. The band is Domo and this is their self titled album. The band hails from France. They play some awesome instrumental psychedelic rock. There are some long and blistering tracks on this album that average around 8 1/2 minutes long but include some 11 and 14 minute tracks as well. The grand opus though is the massive 24 minute last track. These french bands really know how to get shit done. You can sample a few tracks on their Facebook and Myspace pages. If you want to get your own, email the band with the address provided on their Facebook page.
Transubstan Records artist Ginger Trees recently released their second album titled Along With The Tide. Transubstan’s description is as follows:The 2nd album from Swedish GINGER TREES. A fine release that holds the influences of everything between PORCUPINE TREE to URIAH HEEP, KULA SHAKER and PINK FLOYD. Great melodies, especially in the vocals, and a band to watch out for !!
That said, there are a few folksy tunes on there to break up the album and keep it from sounding the same. They play mainly progressive rock but incorporate other styles of classic rock. It took me a few listens to get into it but once it grew on me I had a hard time listening to anything else.
A collaborative album featuring two mammoth tracks, one per side: ‘Coventina’s Cascade’ & ‘Traverse of the Oxen’. Deluxe packaging, heavyweight colored vinyl, the whole nine yards……Released as a limited edition Vinyl only release (Exact quantities TBC shortly) on Bro Fidelity Records/Cobraside Distribution A digital version of the Album will also be made available nearer to the release date (June, 2011).
Holy shit is this massive. Mammoth is the only way to describe it. Both tracks are a tad bit over 10 minutes. They are both mesmerizing and trance inducing. Throw in whatever your vice is and, well, you draw your own conclusions then (please let us know in the comments though). Look for Hotel Wrecking City Traders to tour the US later in the year with Fatso Jetson.
A few months ago we featured a band from the Netherlands called Float A Ziggy. They were giving away their Selfish Manifest EP away on Bandcamp. They’re about to unleash a new EP titled The World Is My Muse. The EP is 20 minutes of some fine rock that only they can play. Their sound is a mix of Husker Du and Mudhoney. I even detect a little of really early Smashing Pumpkins. That said, this isn’t some 90′s alternative rock resurrection project. There are enough modern elements to keep it relevant and 2011, not 1991. You can hear the first track for yourself below and download it free from the band if you like.
